What is WWW – World Wide Web?

178162830_1382949017The term World Wide Web abbreviated as WWW or W3 or simply the Web, is a system of interlinked hypertext documents accessed via the Internet using a web browser. The World Wide Web is made of all the websites available publicly that are connect through internet and can be accessed by client devices such as a computer, tabs, mobile phones, etc.

The World Wide Web is based on the following technologies:

  • Hypertext Markup Language or commonly known as HTML
  • Hypertext Transfer Protocol or HTTP
  • Web servers and Web browsers

Researcher Tim Berners-Lee, a British computer scientist and former CERN employee along with a Belgian computer scientist Robert Cailliau led the development of World Wide Web in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
