When a person speaks of a website he usually refers to a collection of related web pages (documents that can be accessed over the internet). A web page is what you see in a browser like internet explorer, chrome, mozilla firefox, etc. when you type a web address on the address bar of the browser or click a link or search a query in a search engine.
A web page contains information which may comprise of text, colors, graphics, sound or animation, written in plain text interspersed with formatting instructions of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML, XHTML). When a person types a web address, he is directed to a website’s home page that introduces you to information and services provided by the website owner that can be an individual or a company, etc. The website may comprise of one single page or many depending upon what the site owner is trying to accomplish.
A website is hosted on a web server, that can be accessed via a network such as the Internet or a private local area network using an Internet address known as a Uniform resource locator. All publicly accessible websites together constitute the World Wide Web.
The pages of a website are usually accessed through a simple Uniform Resource Locator (URL) called the web address. The URLs of the web pages are usually organized in a hierarchy to guide the reader through the navigation of the website which usually includes home page, contact page and other linked pages.
